 Going back to the Yellow Pages analogy, as a customer, you would go to a page for the service you were looking for (for example, estate agent, gardener, etc.).  The difference with the internet is that it’s a virtual free for all.  Say you were looking for a gardener in Sheffield.  You would type 'Gardening services Sheffield' or maybe 'landscaping service in Sheffield' into the search engine and it would return over 129,000 pages.  This is a minefield for the business owner.  The size of the premises, the number of staff, your portfolio of customers, all adds to your ranking among those pages.  If you are on page 3 out of 129,000 your chances of being seen are beginning to look slim, get to page 129,000 and you’re practically invisible.
